Open Enrollment for Council 94 - AFSCME

Title:

An open enrollment for all active and retired members of Rhode Island Council 94 (A.F.S.C.M.E.) begins on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 and runs through Friday, February 24, 2012. During this period members can call can enroll in our group legal protection plan at the special reduced rates shown below. This is the only open enrollment scheduled this year.Already have this group legal plan? Maybe not! If you have group legal deducted from your pay each pay period,then you have the plan that is offered by the state and not the union endorsed plan. To learn more or to enroll, simply call 401.944.7400. Also, the original open enrollment package that was mailed to all union members is available for download by clicking downloads from the menu to the left and selecting the appropriate title.

R-6 Does the plan have a limit to the number of times I can use it? No. In fact, if you have the same type of legal issue more than once, they all receive the same amount of free time. Can ALSI help me in choosing an attorney?Yes. ALSI has a special program that assists members when legal assistance is needed. Please refer to the attorney information page for more information. Can I use an attorney that is not on your approved list? No. You must use an attorney that is on our approved list. Furthermore, you must confirm with our office that the attorney you wish to use (even if they are on our list) is approved by our office for the area of law you need assistance with. ALWAYS call our office before contacting an attorney. If not, you may risk your free time and end up paying the attorney's normal rate. Can I cancel my membership at any time? Yes. You can cancel your membership any time after your first anniversary date but not before. If you wish to cancel your agreement, written cancellation must be received thirty (30) days prior to your anniversary date and the request must be in writing. What if I already have a legal issue but have not enrolled yet? Canthe plan assist me? No. You must be a member before you have a legal issue for the plan to be available. Remember, if you wait until you have a legal issue before you enroll then it is too late.
