Attorneys - Introduction

MA-1 If the attorney follows proper plan procedure, they will contact our office after you have your first consultation to verify your membership status and obtain the appropriate amount of free time. Once you have been given this information, we suggest that you contact our office to confirm its accuracy. Additionally, the attorney should provide you with a fee or retainer agreement. NOTES: Be sure you have a fee or retainer agreement. Be sure to have ALSI review your fee or retainer agreement for accuracy.

In addition to your fee/retainer agreement, you will receivea final bill for services rendered. This bill should show anitemized list of the services performed as well as an entryfor the ALSI plan credit. You are only responsible for the net amount due (if any). If your case is very complex, you may receive multiple bills over a period of time.

MA-3 All invoices should show an itemized listed of work performed and the appropriate ALSI program credit. To assure that you do not pay for something that should have been included in your free plan time, have all invoices reviewed by our office before making any payments. Simply contact our office and provide us with a copy of the bill. We will review it for accuracy and contact the attorney if there are any errors. If an error does exist, you are not required to pay until you receive a corrected bill.It is more difficult and sometimes not possible to correct a billing problem if you have already paid. Therefore, be sure that all bills are checked for accuracy before you pay.

MA-4 Although we have no control on how an attorney chooses to conduct their private practice, we do monitor the quality of service our members receive and remove those firms that continuously provide poor service. It is rare, but if you receive poor service from a Participating Attorney, contact our office as soon as possible. We will make every attempt to correct the problem on your behalf and take the necessary action so future clients do not experience the same problem. If you prefer to change to another firm, a new attorney will be provided to you. NOTES: Be sure to call us as soon as you have a problem with any attorney. All the information you give us is held in strict confidence. We will make every effort to correct any problem you may have.

MA-5 Most people do not have a lot of experience dealing with an attorney, never mind our legal system. It can be both intimidating, costly, and leave you confused. Selecting the right attorney is one of the most important steps in resolving a legal problem, and yet it is usually done on the recommendation of a friend or family member. This is where your ALSI membership can really help. First, we will assist you in selecting an attorney that best fits your needs. We will listen to what type of attorney you are looking for considering not only the area of law, but other key issues such as the requested geographic location, gender, age, experience, personality and so on. After a list is compiled, we review each attorney with you discussing the attorney’s history with our company and the feedback we have received from other members who have used that attorney in the past. NOTES: There are hundreds of attorneys participating in Rhode Island alone. Legal representation is available for every area of law. You are not obligated to use any recommended attorney.

MA-6 As stated in several places in your membership agreement, promotional materials, and this website, you must use an attorney that is participating in our program for your membership benefits to apply. Additionally, you are always required to contact our office prior to contacting an attorney for a referral approval. By doing so, we can eliminate the possibility of you contacting an attorney that is not part of our plan or contacting an attorney who is part of the plan but not enrolled for the type of law you are seeking assistance with.If you choose not to follow this proceedure, we cannot provide you with any membership benefits, no free time will apply to your legal issue, and you will be billed at that attorneys normal rate.
